A Few Words From Our New President

Nancy E. Chasteen, D.O.,

Farwell, TX

Thank you

I am very grateful and appreciative to those who had confidence in me for this post.

Fulfilling the duties of President of the Texas ACOFP would be an impossible task for one person; fortunately I will have plenty of help from our Past Presidents, the Board members and Kris Beavers, our Executive Director

It is my hope that I can offer the leadership to move our organization forward and reach the goals set for us by our Strategic Planning Committee.  You will hear more about that in the future.

Briefly, I want to tell you what I see as the purpose of the Texas ACOFP.

Texas ACOFP is dedicated to providing for our membership a source of quality osteopathic primary care CME; an opportunity for fellowship and maintaining relationship with our osteopathic family.

As a statewide organization we have an opportunity and an obligation to speak for Texas Osteopathic Family Physicians in the Capital and with the Board of Medical Examiners.  Information on upcoming legislation is gathered and made available to our members. We have had representatives on the Board of Medical Examiners and we hope to continue this.

Likewise we are involved nationally through our voice and participation with the national ACOFP.  Most recently we are involved in fighting the upcoming Medicare re-imbursement cuts.  We are also fighting to maintain the physicians as the ultimate and only independent medical practitioner to avoid NP’s and PA’s leaving their extender roles to practice without supervision or oversight.

Now for the most important part of this speech; in order for this organization to accomplish any of these goals and more, it needs you.  If you are not a member - join; if you are a member – find time to serve.  If you are on a committee – advance to the Board and if you know an osteopathic family physician who is not a member – recruit them.

The Board and I will continue to do our best for our osteopathic brothers and sisters.  I ask that you help us help you.
